Why Self-actualization surpasses all other forms of success

If you had a 25 years to commit to something, what would it be?

Would you wake up every day to show up for it?

How would you handle yourself in the face of distractions and obstacles?

My answer to the above questions is simple, self-actualization.

The Journey of Self-actualization.

According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, self-actualization is the process which individuals strive to become the best version of themselves and achieve personal growth, creativity, and fulfillment.

Let’s admit it, you are not where you want to be in life.

And even if you are where you want to be, there is a path in front of you for you to walk. You won’t feel good remaining stagnant.

That is the nature of life. Everything in the universe is always evolving, and so should we.

Self-actualization is what:

-Helps you identify something you want to be good in and pursue it.

Whatever you choose to pursue must align with your values and purpose so that you don’t end up chasing ego-driven pursuits for external validation.

You’ll want to pursue something that makes your heart at peace, unless you don’t really give a sh*t about your heart or purpose.

-Helps you shed off behaviors that aren’t pushing you in the direction you want to be.

We tend to be hang up on certain habits that we aren’t really proud of which tend to hold us back to our old self.

Being able to let go of these habits takes a lot of work.

When you have a clear goal in mind, abandoning these habits will feel like progress towards the right direction instead of feeling like a sacrifice meant to make you suffer.

-Helps you use your creativity.

Unlike the conventional system that specifies rigid methods of achieving something (e.g going to school, getting a job, retiring) self-actualization makes you look within yourself and find creative solutions to problems you are facing in your life.

There is no one-size-fits-all in this universe.

Everything is unique and so are you.

Self-actualization will help you discover your unique strengths (and weaknesses) and learn how to use them as you face different obstacles in the path of achieving your goals.

-Fosters personal growth.

Imagine being a billionaire because you followed a system you don’t care about. The lack of fulfillment can crush you and make it feel as if your wealth is just another trophy you got because you did what was supposed to be done to get a particular outcome.

On the other hand, imagine facing a burning problem in your life, searching within yourself on how to overcome it, and becoming a person who takes a set of actions (learned from experimenting different things) to get where you want to be.

Your achievements will be engraved on your soul because you were conscious every step of the way and every move you made moved you closer to where you wanted to be.

Every mistake was a lesson, and every action propelled you closer to the next step.

Being able to tell your story is a proof that you walked the path and it will feel worthwhile when you eventually achieve your goal.

Bonus Tip!

There are 2 things which cannot be achieved in this game of self-actualization:

1.Permanence

2.Perfection

Permanence means something staying the same forever. But life always changes. People change, things change, and situations change. Nothing stays exactly the same all the time.

Imperfection is like a natural ingredient in the recipe of being human. It means we’re not perfect, and that’s totally okay. Each of us has things we’re good at (our strengths) and things we’re not so good at (our weaknesses). We all have times when we succeed and times when we fail. Some moments, we shine bright like stars with our accomplishments, while other times, we face challenges and setbacks.

These 2 aspects are important because they help you embrace the self actualization journey as it is. It’s not an easy path. It requires you to confront your beliefs and emotions and change how you see the world.

What’s next?
